Meeting
of the Elderly Core Leaders

The
Diocesan Committee for the Elderly of Nakhonsawan organized
a meeting for the elderly core leaders on "Dialogue
and experience sharing among the elderly" during
24-25 June at the Rung Arun Resort, Singburi with 35
elderly core leaders participating. Rev. Phairat Sriprasert,
secretary general of the Catholic Commission for Health
Pastoral Care was the speaker on "Pastoral direction
Year 2000 of the Catholic Church in Thailand on the
Elderly" and "Spirituality of the work on
the elderly in line with the Catholic teaching".
Participating
elderly people came from the following parishes: St.
Ann Cathedral, Holy Name of Jesus - Singburi, St.
Luke - Lopburi, St. Nicholas - Pitsanulok, St. Joseph
- Tak and St. Peter - Tak.

On the
issue of team-work formation the speaker said that there
are 2 types of the team: namely, a small team which
consists of 4-5 people, whereas a big team consists
of more than 12 people. Team work is very important
for the work achievement. Elements of the team administration
are as follows:

resources (2) Material/Equipment (3) Informative data
(4) Good management which consists of: |

4.1 Decision
on the objective
4.2 Decision on the activities
4.3 Decision on the procedure
4.4 Make the evaluation together as a team. Reward, if
any, should be given to the whole team. |

Each team
must have a leader. Hence, the leader must possess necessary
qualities which consist of the following qualifications:
1. He/she must be a respectable person, open, just, do
what is promised and able to keep confidential matters,
2. Must have experiences, 3. Must understand the frame
work of time, etc. |

Besides,
the Provincial Health Officer of Singburi also gave a
talk on "Guidelines for the Elderly Groups and Role
of the Group Leaders". He said: "Of the past,
Thai society has always given importance to the elderly.
They are the point of reference to any given family, giving
their valuable experiences and being the foundation of
society. In order to obtain benefits from them a forum
should be set up for them to be able to carry out joint
activities together". |

The process
of group establishment should be as follows: 1. Collect
members 2. Pick up a name of the group 3. Establish address
of the office 4. Define the objective 5. Establish rules
and regulations 6. Establish the structure 7. Design the
slogan 8. Design the activities. Members of the group
consist of: (1) Ordinary members aged more than 60 years
(2) Extra-ordinary members with 49-59 years of age. |
