Chanthaburi
Health Team
organized a 'lost sheep follow-up'
and core leader building Project
|
The
sub-committee for health pastoral care of the Chanthaburi
Diocese has prepared the "Health Pastoral Care in
Parishes" pioneering project to be tried in some parishes
before expanding into others.
|
Due to the fact
that the eastern coast of Thailand is a region of technological
progress with the maximum growth in industries. The people
in this region consist of both local and migrants especially
around the factories where they are most thickly populated.
The environment is filled with chemical pollution and rubbish,
while workers in factories lack the needed care, particularly
the elderly and is worsened by the fact that the people around
do not have sufficient knowledge and understanding about the
appropriate care.
|
|
Geographically
several Catholic communities in the Chanthaburi diocese are
situated in vicinity or close to several factories and, at the
same time, the Catholic communities still lack core leaders
in the matter of needed information on health. Meanwhile medical
personnel involved with public health lack communication among
themselves and with the communities. Hence, the health team
of the Chanthaburi diocese set up a pioneering health care project
in some parishes to provide pastoral care for parishioners around
the parish. The responsible person of this project is Rev. Fr.
Sirinon Sanpetch, director of the Chanthaburi diocesan health
committee. They have 4 projects as follows: |
|
1. |
Pastoral visit
to the parishioners with the objective of creating relationship
between this committee with the priests and parishioners to
study data, pastoral care problem among the sick people at home
and within the community in order to create core leaders for
pastoral care of the sick within the parish community, especially
knowledge of pastoral care in line with the Catholic teaching. |
2. |
Directory of
Catholic physicians and nurses and health personnel of the
Chanthaburi diocese.
|
3. |
Exposure to the
life of AIDS patients project. |
4. |
Visitation
project: i.e. to visit Catholic physicians, pharmacists, nurses
and health personnel in the Chanthaburi diocese. |
|
The
procedure of all the 4 projects starts with making visits to
Christian families to collect data. Then coordination is made
to build up core leaders in each parish of each province and
at the diocesan level. This is to join hands in planning activities,
after which there will be an evaluation. Pioneering projects
will be commenced at the Sacred Heart church in Chanthaburi
and the Mary Perpetual Help of Christians church in Rayong.
