Perpetual
Help Home Project: The Udonthani diocese organized the 7th Youth
Camp on the theme: "Promotion and development of technique
in the change of sexual attitude and behavior with risk toward
HIV/AIDS to the school leaders" supported by the Catholic
Commission for Health Pastoral Care. The venue was at the Small
House in the big Jungle Project (His Majesty the King's project)
in the Loei province. Both boy and girl leaders of the secondary
classes from 18 schools including teachers and some Catholics
working on HIV/AIDS in Loei and the adjacent provinces numbering
63 persons participating in this youth camp. |
|
|
The Perpetual
Help Home currently has Rev. Bro. Damien Lunders, SVD, as its
director and Ms. Pornpan Inthisan as its coordinator. |
|
|
In view of the
fact that the youth of the secondary education in the locality
begin to have inappropriate sexual behavior, lack of an awareness
in the value and dignity of sex and lack of care in the HIV
contraction, the Perpetual Help Home project deems it necessary
to organize the successive youth camps including this one which
is the 7th cycle.
Objectives: 1. To create leadership among the student risk groups,
2. To expand activities which promote sexually behavioral and
attitudinal changes to the students participating in the youth
camp, 3. To coordinate with HIV/AIDS workers in the locality
at all levels. |
|
We start the camping
project by first collaborating with the provincial education
and health offices, sanitation offices, district administration
and the targeted schools to set up the theme and activities
for the students who will spend three days in the camp. After
each camping an evaluation will be made including organizing
another two-day seminar for students who already participated
in the camping life in order to expand the thought and activities
to other students. Students who have spent the three days in
the camp are also asked to be speakers in these two days' follow-up
seminar.
The said seminar consists of the following topics: 1. Correct
knowledge and understanding about HIV/AIDS, 2. Attitude and
behavior suitable for the age group, 3. Information relevant
to the problem solution, and 4.Games and activities conducive
to compliment to speaker's talk. |
|
In the camp a
survey over the participants in term of what they get from the
camp it is found that: 1. Participants have new friends from
other institutions, 2. They receive correct knowledge about
HIV/AIDS, 3. They gain experiences through group activities,
and 4. They are aware of the negative impact on sexual relationship
in their age and situation.
The speakers have decided to continue the training to teachers
and students to cover 18 schools until 1st December which is
the World AIDS Day. |
