The
Good Shepherd Sisters Help Weave Dreams of the Poor |
Pursuant
to the collaboration between the Catholic Committee on AIDS and the
Good Shepherd Sisters in helping people encountering with health problems,
especially with AIDS, it is found that those people and their families
are blocked out with regards to self development on various issues
including living with value and dignity. |
So, they
joined together in organizing a workshop on the theme: "Guidelines
on the sustainable occupation: Micro-credit Project" in order
to help various Catholic organizations working with the poor who encounter
with various problems, that they are able to assist those poor people
through experiences and lessons learned from the Good Shepherd Sisters'
work. |
The workshop
was conducted during 18-20 December. Participants received training
on the sufficiency economy, agriculture and cattle raising. They were
also exposed to various projects such as mushroom cultivation and
village cattle farming which have been successful. |
It
is expected that this workshop will be a stepping stone for sustainable
assistance to the villagers, because before receiving any assistance
the villagers must be prepared and equip themselves with proper conditions
and characteristics and join in groups to help one another. Though
this project will have to undergo a long process but it is a model
of sustainable development. The Good Shepherd Sisters are expanding
this project into the north-east and vicinity. |
