"Project
on Care and Empowerment
of HIV Orphans |
The Universal
Church extends solidarity toward the Thai orphans living with HIV/AIDS |
The
Catholic Committee on AIDS organized a "Project on Care and Empowerment
of Orphans Living with HIV/AIDS" in order to help various Catholic
centers working for orphans living with HIV/AIDS in Thailand. |
This
project has been initiated by the Catholic Committee on AIDS by collecting
data about orphans living with HIV/AIDS from various Catholic institutions
working on hospices for these children in 2002 and submitted the project
to different Catholic charitable organizations to obtain medicine,
food, care and appropriate education for the said orphans. The intention
is for those orphans living with HIV/AIDS under the care of those
Catholic institutions will have a better quality of life and able
to live normally in the society. |
Rev.Giovanni
Contarin, president of the committee, is responsible for this project.
The main objectives of the project are: 1. To develop potential of
those children and enable them to live normally in the society 2.
To set a model of how to take care of those orphans 3. To be a witness
of the Church's teaching. |
From
contacts with foreign funding agencies we have positive responses
from the Caritas of Korea, Italy and Spain for a period of 3 years
(2007-2009). |
The
receiving Catholic institutions of financial support are 1. Baan Mitratorn,
Chiengmai 2. Baan Sukruethai (Mother and Child Project), Bangkok 3.
Camillian Social Center, Rayong 4. Lorenzo Home, Cholburi 5. Pastoral
Care for People living with HIV/AIDS project, Kalasin, and 6. Suthasini
Noi-In (for children) Foundation, Yasotorn. The total number of orphans
who benefit from this project is 152. |
"Reasons
for foreign funding agencies supporting this project are 1. These
institutions are working under the auspices of the Catholic Bishops'
Conference of Thailand in the spirit of the Gospel, and 2. There is
a systematic network and there is an evaluation of work performances.
Hence, all the money will have to go to the orphans as stipulated
by the project description" says president of the Catholic Committee
on AIDS. |
This
project will commence from the month of January 2007 on with a bimonthly
meeting of all the project coordinators to follow up the work. |
