CHC
organized a training seminar on "Counseling/Child Psychology
and the Anti-HIV Virus Medicine" at the Pastoral Training Center,
Sampran, on 26-30 September 2007 with 48 participants from various
Catholic institutions working on AIDS.

Miss Thitakanya Wongchana,
a staff member working on protection against HIV/AIDS within the community
under the Foundation of the Camillian Society of Thailand, Pang-nga,
is a participant in this seminar. She narrates her experience of working
on AIDS in Pang-nga as following:
|
|
"My assignment
is to coordinate with the provincial hospital in Pang-nga in order
to make a follow-up and assist the persons living with HIV to organize
themselves into groups and to have a regular meeting. Currently there
are 8 such groups. They do activities in the hospital with assistance
from advisors who both give advice and perform activities together
with the group members. |
|
On protection activities
against HIV there are 4 people who will visit HIV persons and those
affected by AIDS to see to it that they regularly take the anti-virus
medicine, to give advice on how to take care of their health and also
to give moral support to members of the HIV infected person. Work
of the foundation is carried out in a holistic manner, i.e. for both
physically and mentally healing. We also provide preventive knowledge
to the community and factory workers, especially the expatriate ones.
|
|
As far as the knowledge
gained in this seminar I will certainly put into practice by holding
fast to the principle of good counseling, i.e. be a good listener,
the counseling process starts with oneself in observing the face and
gesture of the targeted person, and then we have to make familiarity
in order to create confidence. I am most thankful to this seminar.
I promise that I will apply what I have learned from this seminar." |

The Camillian Foundation
of Pang-nga started soon after the Tsunami calamity which took place
on 26 December 2005 and caused great damages to several western cost
of the south of Thailand causing loss to a lot of lives and property
of both local people and tourists. The Universal Church, through her
Christian solidarity, has rounded up resources of every kind to help
the victims caused by nature. The Camillian Religious Order is one
among those who went down immediately to provide whatever help they
can do. Assistance to the victims are divided into 2 phases:
|
|
1. First Phase: The
Camillians tried to alleviate the plight of the victims bring along
with them doctors and nurses to provide medical treatment and watch
for the outbreak of contagious diseases which normally come easily
after a natural disaster. At the same time they also coordinate data
on the victims' sickness in order to provide the maximum efficiency.
|
|
2. Renewal Phase: The
Camillians have continuously organized a mobile medical team to provide
health care to the family affected by the natural disaster. In this
connection volunteers and personnel of the Camillian foundation are
brought to make home visits in the communities. From these home visits,
we have found that the problem of HIV contamination and persons living
with AIDS is tended to be on the rise. So, the Camillian Foundation
has organized a preventive project in order to prevent HIV/AIDS and
reduce the acceleration rate through activities which provide knowledge
to the community, and at the same time, coordinate relevant assistance
to the persons living with HIV. |
