Progress
|
on
the HIV/AIDS Works |
The Catholic
Sub-committee for HIV/AIDS conducted its No. 1/2549 meeting
last January to lay down the activity planning, chaired by
Rev. Giovanni Contarin, with the following results:
|
New
Group that will work on HIV/AIDS:
The Camillian Foundation
of Thailand is expanding its work on HIV/AIDS in collaboration
with the diocese of Suratthani in the provinces of Ranong and
Pang-nga under the name of "HIV/AIDS Prevention and Life
Renewal after the Tsunami Project". The project has already
been started with financial support from Caritas Spain. |
Request
for financial support from Global Fund:
Due to the delay in submitting
the operation report on the part of project administrator Global
Fund has not yet sent its financial remittance. It is therefore
requested that whoever requests for funding should first write
up their project. They will be kept informed of further progress. |
The
Catholic Health Care Networking Groups:
The Catholic groups working
on this field have already joined hands for some time in the
past especially in the north and the north east. Currently we
are planning activities for the year 2549 with some activities
already started. The main activity would be training to upgrade
the potential of the staff and volunteer personnel. |
Chinese
religious superioresses for the AIDS exposure:
13 Chinese religious superioresses
will travel to Thailand to study the AIDS works of the Thai
female religious for a week. The main interest is: AIDS counseling,
care for people affected by AIDS, hot line, outreach, occupational
training for the HIV affected, etc. |
Asian
Interfaith Networking (AINA):
There will be an Interfaith AIDS
Consultation 2006 in Sri Lanka on 2-7 April, 2006. |
The
Sub-committee promoting AIDS works:
The purpose of this activity is to
create networking with all the Catholic enterprises working
on HIV/AIDS in Asia. At the moment relevant data, problems/obstacles
are being collected. It is expected that all the necessary information
will be available before September and a Congress at the Asian
level will be organized soon after that. |
Thailand
Asian Mission Congress:
The Catholic Bishops' Conference
of Thailand, through the Episcopal Department for Pastoral Care
of the Christians, will organize its national activities during
11-12 August 2549 at the Lux Mundi seminary, Samphran. On this
occasion the Catholic Commission for Health Pastoral Care has
requested 5 tents for the exhibition of its various activities.
|
There
was a discussion on the issue of "How can religion help
the HIV/AIDS affected people?" in view of the availability
of the anti-virus medicine and the anti-AIDS vaccine. |
Rev.Fr.
Giovanni Gontarin expressed his opinion that society needs
religion and that believers must study their own religious precepts
and behave accordingly, and that they should be 'good' in line
with their own religious teaching, but society lacks the awareness
of this role; so, the role of the Catholic organizations, other
than providing pastoral care, should have a forum for idea exchange
with people of other faiths who are interested in the AIDS work. |
