Strength
Mobilization of the Elderly of the Archdiocese of Tharae |
The Social Development
Center of the Archdiocese of Tharae-Nong Saeng
organized the "Strength Mobilization Day of the Elderly of
the Archdiocese of Tharae" on 17 October 2006 at the Martino
Hall chaired by H.G. Archbishop Louis Chamniern Santisukniran.
There were 1,010 participants. On this occasion 21 'grateful children'
were awarded with certificates and poor students with good grades
were given scholarships by the St. Gabriel and Lent Foundations. |
Power mobilization of the
elderly is an activity of the Archdiocese of Tharae carried out by
the Social and Human Development Sector, currently headed by Fr. Chalermsilp
Janla. The elderly project has been initiated by the Tharae DISAC
by supporting grouping of the elderly in various parishes and have
the parochial elderly groups established. At present, there are 21
elderly groups in Tkharae with the final effect on "Elderly networks
of the Tharae Archdiocese." Members of the various groups are
selected to be a central committee to run and coordinate all the activities. |
The objectives of this
elderly power mobilization are: |
1) |
To support activities of
the elderly |
2) |
To promote members to meet
and exchange experiences within the networking groups which will be
conducive to increasing the strength and value of the elderly. |
3) |
To make known the activities
of the groups to the governmental and private sectors including the
young who would participate in showing their gratitude to the elderly. |
H.G.
Archbishop Chamniern gave a thoughtful comment as follows: "In
Thai culture the elderly is compared to the Pho Tree to their grandchildren.
Thus the elderly must realize that what they have to do today is to
set a good example for their grandchildren by being a nice consort
and friendly toward each other's spouse." |
"Meanwhile the children
and the youth should know that they are 'gifts' and 'future' of the
family, community, society and particularly of their very own grand
parents. Thus, on this occasion that people from every walk of life
come together for the celebration of the elderly power mobilization,
it is a good sign indicating that whoever and whatever parish they
belong they should carry out their responsibility the best they can,
then the good part of everyone will help build up the kingdom of God
in this world." |

21
grateful children of the Archdiocese are selected this year, among
whom Miss Tipnapha Buathalard, Miss Alisa Saengri and
Mr. Chamrong Suksong have been chosen to be "grateful
children" at the national level by the Catholic Subcommittee
for the Elderly on 27 May 2006 at St. Peter Church, Sampran. |
As
for the scholarship of St. Gabriel Foundation, 109 students from the
Thare Archdiocese have been bestowed with the educational sponsorship
starting from the primary, secondary, high school up the university
level. |
