"Grateful Child Project"
Reaches out to the Parochial Level

From the meeting of the working committee under the Subcommittee for the Elderly led by Rev. Virote Nanthajinda there have been successive developments in term of activities especially the "Grateful Child Project".

The working committee has decided to organize activities in the various grass-root locations in view of the fact that at the present time a lot of the elderly people are left alone in the family. It is imperative that the elderly must stand up and organize activities for the elderly themselves. However, to make the program sustainable it needs continuation and funds should not be the problem.
It was consensus of the meeting that every activity within a church inclusive of the elderly will be progressive or digressive all depend on the cooperation of he parish priest or his assistant. At the same time members of the elderly group must be active with systematic group management, regular meetings, meeting minutes recorded, good follow-up and good coordination, and no financial burden to the parish or the community. If activities of the elderly prove themselves to be constructive and inflict no harm to the parish and the community it is certain that it will be supported by every party concerned.
The working committee organized the "Grateful Child" project to promote gratitude towards parents which is part of the Thai culture. The working committee has regularly conducted the meetings and made promotion among the parishes and dioceses to select the grateful child. The following motions have already been activated: 1. Logo: has already been decided upon by the committee, 2. Certificate: to be given to a grateful child at the parish, diocesan and national level with an appropriate selection. This is to encourage and promote a good model for the community.
Such certificates are distributed to diocesan spiritual directors and coordinators. Activities of the "Grateful Chile" project will be further organized at both the diocesan and national level at a later date.
